When lifestyle creator Nara Smith revealed earlier this year that her two-year-old daughter, Whimsy Lou, had been diagnosed with cancer, the news stunned followers around the world.
Now, the influencer has shared the update every parent hopes for: her little girl is officially in remission after completing months of treatment.
In an emotional video, Smith said Whimsy Lou had finished chemotherapy and that she finally felt ready to speak publicly about what her family had been living through over the past eight months.
The 24-year-old and her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, had kept their daughter’s diagnosis private while she underwent treatment.
“We wanted to wait until she was done with treatment and knowing what the outcome of her situation would be before sharing it and even finding the words to share it,” Smith explained.
“Now that she’s finally in remission, it felt like I could find the words to share.”
Smith said the ordeal began after she and Lucky noticed something wasn’t right and took their daughter to the emergency room.
After further tests, including X-rays, ultrasounds and a biopsy, doctors confirmed that the cancer had spread and chemotherapy needed to begin immediately.
Rather than focusing only on her family’s relief, Smith said she wanted to use her platform to draw attention to what many other parents continue to face behind closed doors.
“The whole point of me sharing our experience was to shed light on what so many families go through and battle privately,” she said.
“Going through chemo treatments opened my eyes to how expensive medical care is and what a toll it takes on families, specifically.”
She has since shared links to several GoFundMe campaigns and organisations supporting families whose children are still undergoing cancer treatment, encouraging her followers to help where they can.
Although Whimsy Lou’s treatment has ended, Smith acknowledged that recovery is about more than medical results.
“Lucky and I have been trying to return to everyday life and taking it day by day,” she said.
“I don’t know whether life will ever feel normal again, but we’re trying to navigate this next chapter the best that we can.”
The couple are parents to Whimsy Lou, Rumble Honey, Slim Easy and baby Fawnie Golden. Lucky Blue Smith also has an older daughter, Gravity.
For Smith, remission marks the end of one chapter, but not the end of the healing process.
By sharing her family’s experience, she hopes more attention will be given to the emotional and financial challenges that many families face while caring for a child with cancer.
