Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi bemoaned his team’s lack of killer instinct in front of goal after their 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday night.
Chiefs, coming off successive defeats in the league, have just one win in their last six Betway Premiership matches. At the moment they are struggling to stay in the top eight.
The eight-placed Chiefs are one point ahead of Chippa United in ninth, although the Chilli Boys have two games in hand over Amakhosi. TS Galaxy, on the other hand, are having a good season and moved to third in the standings after the point gained in the Limpopo capital.
Chiefs took the lead in the 36th minute through Wandile Duba. But the Rockets equalised nine minutes from time when Chiefs’ Given Msimango bundled the ball into his own net.
Chiefs’ lack of goals has been the biggest headache for Nabi in his first season in charge of the club. Chiefs average just one goal a game with 24 in 24 league matches, while they have conceded 29.
And Nabi is getting tired of speaking about the missed opportunities.
“It’s true that as well as the opportunities we got were through our pressing, timing, it’s what we worked on to prepare for this opponent, I’m tired of repeating myself on the chances we missing,” Nabi told SuperSport TV after the match.
“We should have scored more than one goal – we gave the opponents a chance to stay alive and we know they are good in set-pieces, and we tried to make changes, and we unfortunately conceded from a corner.”
Chiefs next take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup next weekend. It’s their final opportunity this season to break their decade-long trophy drought.
However, Sundowns have already beaten Chiefs three times this season. So, another uphill battle awaits Amakhosi.
