Heatwave poses serious health risk in SA- SAMRC
The current heat wave in the country poses a serious health threat to residents.
This is according to research conducted by the South African Medical Research Council which says infants, the elderly, pregnant women and outdoor workers are the most vulnerable to death as a result of exposure to extreme heat, as parts of Gauteng and KZN are expected to reach nearly 40 degrees this week.
Reiger park residents left without electricity as cable thieves target the community
The Community of Reiger Park in Johannesburg have been left frustrated after cable thieves stole copper cables in their area, leaving residents without electricity. The residents say that the theft of the electrical cables had been taking place over the past 18 months, which has left pavements destroyed, leaving water pipes exposed and manholes open.
New data centre in the City to provide around 500 jobs
The City says that a new data centre shows Cape Town is still top for tech opportunities. Mayco Member for Economic Growth James Vos says a new data centre is the second in the metro
which will plough R1,5billion into Cape Town’s economy over the next two to three years and create around 500 jobs.
Close shave asteroid, almost hits earth, but scientists say not to worry
Scientists say a biggish asteroid passed the Earth and was the size of a minibus taxi. Although the closest approach was 3,600km’s its still considered uncomfortably close. But not to worry, scientists say that if the asteroid had been on a direct course and collided with Earth it wouldn’t have had a significant impact on the planet.
