CT mayor encouraged by City’s unemployment rate drop
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the City is encouraged by unemployment in Cape Town declining by 2,6 percentage points, with the city maintaining the lowest unemployment rate of the metros. The latest StatsSA Quarterly Labour Force survey for Oct – Dec 22 shows Cape Town’s unemployment rate is at 26.9%, down 2,6% from the previous quarter. This is based on the expanded unemployment definition, which offers the most complete estimate.
CT cruise season set to exceed pre pandemic levels
The Cape Town Cruise Terminal is set to exceed pre-pandemic cruise tourism levels with around 75 passenger ships docking at the harbour for this season. The current forecast is pointing toward the cruise season exceeding figures of that shown in 2019.
SA back under national state of disaster
South Africa is officially back under a national state of disaster. The government has gazetted sweeping regulations to deal with the electricity crisis. Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has been given the power to exempt critical infrastructure from power cuts.
Crochet fans break world record and crochet 2k blankets for charities
A total 960 crochet fans gathered in Derby, England, to practice their hobby at the same time and break a World Record. The campaign resulted in about 2,000 homemade blankets being donated to food banks and charities. The record attempt featured crocheters from as far away as New York.
