Diesel price to drop this week
There’s some relief on the cards for motorists this week as diesel is expected to decrease by around R1,62cents a litre. Petrol will however increase by around 27cents per litre. The forecast so far is showing to be good as the lower international oil prices are pointing toward further decreases of up to R1 per litre for both petrol and diesel in January. But experts say that thats a big if.
City’s Fire and Rescue Services responded to more than 5,000 incidents between November last year and January 2022
The City says that the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services responded to nearly 5,500 incidents between the start of November last year and the 2nd of January this year. This includes fires, rescues and medical emergencies. The majority of the fires responded to were vegetation fires, followed by residential fires. The remaining incidents included special service calls like Hazmat incidents, medical and trauma calls and 1 058 motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
Rolling blackouts to stay – for now- ESKOM
Eskom says that South Africans will have to get used to rolling blackouts for some time, as the utility continues to struggle to keep up with demand. Stage three power cuts are currently in place for Eskom customers, with the utility saying that stage 2 load shedding will be indefinite from tomorrow. The shortage of electricity supply is being blamed on a number of breakdowns at power stations across the country.
Alterations to St Edward’s Crown ahead of Charles’ coronation
Britain’s 17th-century St Edward’s Crown, the centrepiece of the Crown Jewels, has been removed from display to be altered for the coronation of King Charles III. The crown was made for King Charles II in 1661 to replace a mediaeval crown thoughT to date back to Edward the Confessor. The current crown was only carried in coronation processions as it was too heavy to wear, currently weighing at more than 2kg’s.
