Premier Winde calls on his cabinet to do anything to solve the energy crisis 

Premier Alan Winde has called on his provincial cabinet to do anything in their power to solve the energy crisis, with the premier saying the Provincial Energy Council is looking at all options to make the Western Cape more energy resilient and to, over time, make it more independent of Eskom. Winde has since written a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa requesting to meet with him to discuss the energy crisis.

City’s Metro police see 59percent increase in arrests over 6 month period

The City’s Metro Police Department has seen a 59% increase in arrests over a six-month period (taken from July to December last year), compared to the same period in 2021.
Notable increases were recorded too in the confiscation of contraband, firearms and ammunition, as well as assistance rendered to motorists and/or incidents responded to on the N2 and R300.

Criminal records to be removed from those charged during state of disaster

South Africans who broke COVID protocols during the state of disaster could have their criminal records removed. The justice portfolio committee is in the process of formulating new legislation to expunge the criminal records, with most of the violations including illegal gatherings, off-site sale of alcohol outside of regulated times as well as violating the late-night curfew.

Fish exposes owners credit card information online 

A Japanese YouTuber created a custom setup to allow his pet fish to play Pokémon on his Nintendo Switch, but a malfunction led to the fish spending money at the eShop and revealing its owner’s credit card information on live stream. The fish controls the game by swimming to different areas of its tank, which have been outfitted with sensors that simulate pushing the buttons, however its movement caused the Nintendo eShop to open and spend $4 of the owners money, revealing his credit card information.
