Section27 calls for eradication of pit toilets
Section27 is continuing its call for the eradication of pit toilets. For years government has been promising to get rid of pit toilets but have since failed to meet these promises. In 2021, a court ordered the Limpopo education department to provide a list of schools with pit toilets, as well as plans to eradicate these, with the department having until the end of this month to do so.
Ramokgopa hopes higher stages of load shedding won’t be implemented as power grid improves
Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says problems at Kusile power station will be fixed with his expectation that four units will go online by the end of the year. Ramokgopa says he is confident that South Africa won’t experience higher stages of blackouts.
He is on a tour of power stations in Mpumalanga where he says plans are in place to avoid power cuts
National Assembly Speaker faces motion of no confidence today
National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula is expected to face her first motion of no confidence today. Tabled by the EFF, a full house sitting will convene in the Cape Town City Hall to debate and vote on the motion. The Red Beret’s say the speaker disregarded their right to free expression and failed to follow procedure when security services were allowed to enter City Hall to remove them during the President’s State of the Nation Address last month.
Scotsman clinches world record swimming across two New Zealand islands
A Scot has set a new world record for the fastest swim across the Cook Strait – the shark-infested waters between New Zealand’s North and South Islands. 31 year old Andy Donaldson swam through the night to complete the 23km route in four hours and 33minutes. He has already broken the British record for swimming the English Channel and became the first Scottish male to swim from Ireland to Scotland.
