Orlando Pirates have confirmed that Sihle Nduli will be sidelined for approximately four months after suffering a serious ankle injury against AmaZulu.
The Buccaneers revealed that the 30-year-old midfielder sustained a Grade 3 ligament tear during the clash with Usuthu, forcing him to leave the field following a heavy challenge.
After further assessment by the club’s medical team, Nduli was ruled out for an extended period, with the injury effectively expected to keep him out for the remainder of the year.
The setback is a major blow for Nduli, who had only recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines after recovering from a previous injury.
His latest injury means he now faces another extended rehabilitation period as Pirates prepare to continue their campaign without the midfielder.
Nduli had featured in Pirates’ plans after making his return, but his latest setback means coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will once again have to manage his midfield options without him.
The Buccaneers are also currently without Thalente Mbatha and Evidence Makgopa, although their absences are not linked to Nduli’s injury.
Mbatha missed Pirates’ recent clash against AmaZulu, while Makgopa has yet to feature for the club this season.
However, Nduli’s injury represents the latest confirmed setback for the Soweto giants, who will now have to plan for the midfielder’s absence over the coming months.
With his recovery expected to take approximately four months, Nduli is unlikely to return to competitive action until next year.
For now, the midfielder faces another lengthy rehabilitation process as he works towards making a full recovery from the latest setback.
