Since the announcement that Jose Riveiro will be leaving his position as Orlando Pirates coach at the end of the season, there has been much speculation about who will take over the hot seat of the Soweto Giants.

One name that keeps turning up is that of Pitso Mosimane. Though the former Sundowns and Bafana Bafana coach is currently unattached to a club, Mosimane has insisted he’s too busy at the moment to consider a move to the Bucs.

The 60-year-old insists he is keeping busy with his Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS) project.

This comes after he left his coaching job at Iranian club Esteghlal, due to a pay dispute in January.

Is Pitso Mosimane set for a return to South African football?

“I’ve seen it (speculation), but nobody has spoken to me…we will see,” Mosimane told The Sowetan.

However, when Mosimane was asked if he would consider a return to a position within SA football, he responded: “Why not? It must be for the right project. It must be at the right time.”

The fact that he is back in South Africa though, has not gone unnoticed and is perhaps why the speculation about Mosimane’s link with Pirates has ramped up.

“I’m back home, yes, but I’m busy with my schools project. Let me focus on it. I’m not seeing any vacancy because I’m on the pitch every day working with kids.”

Riveiro has won two Nedbank Cups and three MTN 8 titles with the Soweto Giants, and Riveiro earlier this month made the shock announcement that he would not be renewing his contract at the end of the season.
