President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the duration of the Madlanga Commission, with its final report now due to be submitted on November 16, 2026 instead of the original deadline of August 31, 2026.

The Presidency confirmed the extension in a media statement on Thursday.

“President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended the final report deadline of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System.

“The Commission will submit its report on Monday, 16 November 2026, instead of 31 August 2026, as anticipated originally.”

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the extension granted by the president sets an evidence deadline of Friday, 2 October 2026, and a reporting deadline of Monday, 16 November 2026.

“The extension granted by the President sets an evidence deadline of Friday, 2 October 2026, and a reporting deadline of Monday, 16 November 2026, to enable the Commission to close off topics it has opened up in the course of hearings to date.

“The extension allows the Commission to hear evidence on all of the matters listed in its terms of reference.

“Without an extension, the Commission will have to leave large parts of its work unfinished.

“President Ramaphosa once again expresses his deepest appreciation for the work conducted by the Commission as well as for the manner in which law enforcement agencies are following up testimony emerging from Commission hearings,” Magwenya said.

The extension comes after the commission confirmed that it had entered discussions with the Presidency over a possible extension of its deadlines amid growing pressure to conclude its high-profile inquiry.

It also follows remarks by Ramaphosa, who indicated that he would be open to granting the commission additional time should the commissioners determine that an extension was necessary.
