The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings against suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya have been postponed.
This comes after reports earlier said proceedings had not gone ahead on Monday as planned.
Sibiya’s legal team has filed an urgent court application seeking to stop the disciplinary proceedings which were set to address matters that emerged from the Madlanga Commission.
The Madlanga Commission previously recommended disciplinary action against Sibiya.
Sibiya is currently in custody and faces six criminal charges, including rape, sexual grooming of a minor, human trafficking and negligent handling of a firearm.
His legal team had sought to have the disciplinary proceedings, scheduled for Monday, postponed.
Meanwhile, SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the disciplinary proceedings had gone ahead and had not been halted.
She said the disciplinary hearing and the Labour Court proceedings are separate matters and have been running in parallel.
“The disciplinary hearing was heard today, with the Applicant’s request for a postponement granted.”
Mathe said the matter has been postponed to October 12, 2026, to allow him an opportunity to consult with his legal representatives in preparation for the hearing.
“The urgent application before the Labour Court was also heard today and has been adjourned to allow SAPS to file its opposing papers and allow the Applicant to file his Replying Affidavit before the matter can be heard by the Court.”
Mathe said the Labour Court matter remains sub judice, and SAPS will refrain from commenting on the merits of the matter.
