South Africa has officially chosen its representative for one of the world’s biggest beauty pageants, and the spotlight is now firmly on Gauteng’s Shannon Benting.
The 30-year-old model and content creator from Northcliff has been crowned Miss Supranational South Africa 2026 and will carry the country’s hopes onto the international stage when she competes at the Miss Supranational pageant in Poland next month.
The prestigious global competition is set to take place on July 31 at the Strzelecki Park Amphitheatre in Nowy Sącz, where contestants from around the world will compete for the coveted crown currently held by Brazil’s Eduarda Braum.
For Benting, the title represents far more than a beauty pageant achievement.

Known for using her platform to advocate for women’s empowerment, she has built her personal mission around creating opportunities for young people who may not otherwise have access to them.
Through her initiative, Beauty in Action, she focuses on connecting underserved youth with mentorship programmes, skills development opportunities and community outreach projects.
Her message is rooted in a belief that talent can be found everywhere, but access to opportunity is often unequal.
Benting’s multicultural heritage has also played an important role in shaping her outlook.
With South African Coloured roots on both sides of her family and Chinese ancestry through her paternal grandmother and maternal great-grandfather, she has long embraced diversity, inclusion and community as central values.
Speaking after being named Miss Supranational South Africa 2026, Benting described the moment as one of the proudest of her life.
“Representing South Africa at Miss Supranational 2026 is a moment I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I have worked hard, dreamed big and stayed grounded in my purpose, and this feels like confirmation that showing up with authenticity and intention truly matters.”
She added that the opportunity goes beyond personal success.
“I do not take this responsibility lightly. I am walking onto that stage in Poland not just for myself, but for every young woman in South Africa who has been told that where she comes from is a limitation rather than a launching pad. I want her to see me and believe that it is possible for her too.”
The announcement was made alongside the unveiling of the Miss African Beauty South Africa 2026 Top 20 contestants, from whom two more women will be selected to represent South Africa at major international pageants.
According to African Beauty International CEO and national director of Miss Supranational South Africa, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala, Benting distinguished herself through a combination of confidence, authenticity and purpose.
“Shannon stood out not simply for her beauty – though that is undeniable – but for the quiet, unshakeable clarity she has about who she is and what she wants to do with her platform,” said Montjane-Tshabalala.
“She has a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life, which speaks directly to her multicultural heritage and her life experience. On an international stage, that quality is rare and immensely powerful.”
Montjane-Tshabalala, who represented South Africa internationally after being crowned Miss South Africa 2010 and later earning the Miss World Africa title in 2011, believes Benting has what it takes to make a lasting impact.
“Shannon understands that this title is not about a crown; it is about the doors it opens and the lives that can be changed as a result. That is exactly the spirit Miss African Beauty South Africa was built to amplify, and I have every confidence she will make this country incredibly proud in Poland.”
Miss African Beauty South Africa has positioned itself as a platform that celebrates women who combine beauty with purpose, leadership and community impact. This year’s finalists come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including law, civil engineering, audiology, cancer biology, drama therapy and digital marketing.
While Benting’s immediate focus will be on Miss Supranational in Poland, South Africans are also eagerly awaiting the selection of the country’s representatives for Miss World South Africa 2026 and Miss Universe South Africa 2026 from the remaining Top 20 contestants.
For now, however, all eyes will be on Benting as she prepares to step onto the international stage and showcase not only her own journey, but the resilience, diversity and ambition of South African women.
