The spotlight shifts from the stage to the recording studio as the countdown to the 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMA32) gathers momentum with one of the ceremony’s most prestigious honours – Best Produced Album.
Battling for the coveted award are Ingoma Busuku by Paras “Sibalukhulu” Dlamini, produced by Nduduzo Makhathini; Less Trouble by Shekhinah, produced by Shekhinah, Rudolph Willemse, imnotgoofy, Mzizi, Gregory Abrahams, Iam6teen, Brendon-Lee Earl Johnson and Master A Flat; Sacred Cycle by MauritzLotz, self-produced by the acclaimed guitarist; Therapy: The Other Side by Langa Mavuso, produced by an accomplished collective including Darren Blackansee, Simphiwe Mashinini, Ndumiso Manana, Ndabo Zulu, Christer Kobedi, Civil Motha, Unako Chabeli, Langa Mavuso, Jabulani Nkabinde, LindelaniLee, Seragi Thantsha, Mnqobi Bayanda Nxumalo, Zooci, Jonathan Takyi Mensah and Onkabetse John Hlongwane; and ZINZA by Banda Banda, produced by Banda Banda. Together, these albums showcase the artistry, innovation and technical excellence that continue to set the benchmark for South African music production.
The nominees have each carved out impressive journeys long before this year’s awards season.“Ingoma Busuku”, produced by celebrated jazz has, already claimed Best Jazz Album at the 2026 Metro FM Music Awards, earning praise for its seamless blend of African spirituality and contemporary jazz.
Shekhinah’s “Less Trouble” continued her reign as one of South Africa’s pop powerhouses, racking up more than nine million Spotify streams while fan favourites like “Risk and “Steady” dominated playlists.
Mauritz Lotz’s self-produced “Sacred Cycle” has been lauded for its masterful musicianship and intricate compositions, showcasing the acclaimed guitarist’s remarkable versatility. Langa Mavuso’s “Therapy: The Other Side” has resonated deeply with listeners, with its standout single “Dangerous” earning a Metro FM Music Award nomination and the album winning acclaim for its rich live instrumentation and heartfelt storytelling.
Meanwhile, Banda Banda’s self-produced “ZINZA” has been celebrated for its bold artistic vision and distinctive sound, further cementing the artist’s reputation as one of the country’s most exciting creative forces.
“Behind every great album is a producer who brings together creativity, technical precision and artistic vision,” said SAMA32 spokesperson Unathi Gwija.
“This category honours those exceptional individuals and production teams whose work transforms great songs into unforgettable listening experiences. Their contribution is central to the continued growth, innovation and global competitiveness of South African music.”
The Homecoming Edition of SAMA32, taking place at the Sun City Superbowl on August 15, is about recognising excellence across every aspect of the music industry.
