The countdown to the 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMA32) presented by theMotsepe Foundation, continues to gather momentum.
Led by music icon Simphiwe Dana, who recently celebrated two decades in the industry, and legendary guitarist Madala Kunene, this year’s Best African Adult Contemporary Album category brings together some of South Africa’s most respected storytellers and musical innovators.
Dana earns a nomination for her critically acclaimed album Moya, a deeply introspective project that marked her return to the spotlight and reaffirmed why she remains one of the country’s most influential voices in Afro-soul and jazz.
Meanwhile, Kunene joins forces with acclaimed guitarist Sibusile Xaba on KwaNtu, a collaboration that bridges generations while celebrating the enduring beauty of indigenous African music.
The pair lead a talented field of nominees that also includes Jabulile Majola for “Isitifiketi”, Zawadi Yamungu for “Ngimuhle” and BandaBanda for “ZINZA”. Together, they represent a blend of established icons and contemporary voices keeping African Adult Contemporary music vibrant and relevant.
According to SAMA spokesperson Unathi Gwija, the category celebrates artists whose music preserves Africa’s rich cultural heritage while embracing contemporary creativity.
“These nominees are master storytellers whose music transcends generations, blending indigenous sounds, powerful lyricism and modern production to create timeless works of art. Their albums remind us that African music continues to evolve while remaining deeply connected to its roots.”
The winner will be announced at the SAMA32 Homecoming Edition, taking place at the Sun City Superbowl on August 15, where one of South Africa’s most cherished musical genres will once again take centre stage.
