Singer Kharishma hospitalised after fatal Polokwane crash that claimed friend’s life

South African singer Kharishma, whose real name is Melita Makoma Ribane, is receiving medical care after being involved in a serious car accident in Polokwane early on Friday, October 31, 2025.

The accident claimed the life of one of her friends.

Kharishma is a Lekompo singer popularly known for her energetic performances and hit songs. 

In a statement issued by her family, they confirmed that Kharishma and three friends were involved in the crash at the corner of Grobler and Magazyn Street.

“Tragically, the accident claimed the life of one of Kharishma’s friends, while the others, including Kharishma, sustained severe injuries,” read the statement.

They have apologised to the public, explaining that they could not disclose the names of the deceased and injured pending the completion of formal identification processes and official statements from their families.

The family said Kharishma is receiving comprehensive medical care in Polokwane. 

”We would like to assure the public, her fans, and supporters that qualified and dedicated medical professionals are doing everything possible to ensure her recovery and healing.”

Expressing gratitude for the support they have received, Kharishma’s family said they were “deeply touched by the overwhelming messages of support, prayers, and well wishes received thus far.”

They also thanked provincial leaders, including the Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Makoro John Mpe, and his MMC, Jerry Mamabolo, for their support and compassion. 

The family extended their appreciation to the many artists and DJs who have stood by Kharishma, including DJ Hitboss SA, DJ Janisto, Makhadzi and her team, DJ Izzy Soul, DJ Donny Lamixer, and her close friends, “for their comfort and presence.”

Kharishma’s family has appealed for privacy, asking the public and media to respect her privacy and allow her the space and time she needs to recover.
