DAVOS – South Africa has been selected to host a special World Economic Forum (WEF) Spring Summit in April 2027.

The announcement was made by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, during the South Africa Night event held alongside the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos.

Lamola said the summit would be a critical platform to address ongoing geopolitical and socio-economic issues affecting Africa and the global economy.

“South Africa will host the special WEF Spring Summit in April 2027. The summit will bring together global and African business leaders and public figures to engage on critical thematic priorities, advance public-private partnerships and accelerate Africa’s strategic developmental agenda,” said Lamola.

As Africa’s most industrialised economy and a key voice in the Global South, South Africa is uniquely positioned to convene global leaders to discuss and advance collective solutions to challenges such as rising geopolitical tensions, shifting trade dynamics and critical resource constraints reshaping the global agenda.

South Africa’s leadership in climate diplomacy, the renewable energy transition, digital transformation and regional integration aligns closely with the World Economic Forum’s mission to improve the state of the world.

“We call on all South Africans — the private sector, civil society and all our partners — to support this meeting as they supported our G20 bracelets, with the vibrancy, warmth, hospitality and generosity that define our nation,” Lamola said.
