“‘Shibilika’ has a big vibe,” said Adam Dee of The Incredibles, reflecting on their latest collaboration with DJ Tira and BlaQ Kiidd.
The track fuses their signature Joburg gqom style with Durban energy, and it quickly became clear that it was something special.
“From the moment we started, we knew this song had to move people,” added Tyson King, his childhood friend and musical partner.
The journey began at NaakMusiq’s studio, where the duo met with BlaQ Kiidd.
“We were just messing around at first, testing sounds and rhythms,” Dee recalled. “But then everything clicked. The track needed one last thing, but we found that spark with Makoya Bearings.”
King explained that reaching DJ Tira was not straightforward.
“We weren’t sure if he would hear us over his busy schedule, but we kept pushing. When he finally listened, his response was instant.
He said, ‘This is fire.’ That was it. We all knew it had to be finished together.” Within days, they were back in the studio, shaping the song into something larger than any of them had imagined.
For The Incredibles, “Shibilika” is more than just another track. “It represents us fully embracing our sound and culture,” King said.
“We wanted to make a song that people couldn’t resist dancing to. That’s the heart of gqom, and we wanted to honour that.”
Dee added, “It’s about evolution. We’re staying true to our roots, but we’re also showing growth. The energy of ‘Shibilika’ reflects where we are as artists today.”
The track also marks a significant moment in their journey. “From classrooms in Pietermaritzburg to defining the South African nightlife sound, this song feels like a milestone,” Dee said.
King nodded in agreement. “It’s a bridge between what we’ve done and what’s coming next. It’s an entry point for bigger things.”
Looking ahead, the duo is planning an ambitious 2026.
“We have new singles and an EP or album coming,” Dee shared.
“Fans can expect collaborations with PCee, Cowboii, NaakMusiq, TNS and Anele Zondo. We’re also working on gloves, vests and caps, which are part of our identity. And we’ll be expanding our tours across provinces and internationally.”
King emphasised that this is just the beginning. “Shibilika gives us momentum. It’s a signal that we’re stepping up on every level – music, live shows and connecting with fans.”
The creation of ‘Shibilika’ was electric from the start.
“There’s a certain spark in the studio when a track is meant to take on a life of its own,” Dee explained.
King reflected on that moment: “Watching it evolve from an idea into something people can feel on the dance floor – that’s why we do this. That’s the power of gqom and the reason we keep pushing.”
