Running a household with a blended family may come with its challenges, but for Renier and Berry Trytsman, they are passionate about sharing how they navigate life with a blended family and balancing their music careers.
The couple are this week’s guests on the P-Word this week, with host Rushka Lee Pedro.
Berry is the season 17 Idols South Africa winner and Renier is a musician. Together they are parents and entrepreneurs as they run their own business from home.
Renier has two sons from a previous marriage and has two children with Berry, making them a fun, blended family. Berry refers to the boy of the family not as stepsons but rather “bonus children”.
“Step sounds like they’re not really yours and I’ve known them for so long I mean the youngest one Luca, he was just over two when I met him and he calls me mum by choice and I feel they were just a bonus to me marrying their dad.”
“They came with the package but it was like that extra special gift that was on top of an already special gift which is their dad and I just don’t believe that step is the right way to put it when you love little humans that much,” she said.
With running their own business at home the couple have ways to balance all their responsibilities but also have fun while doing it.
“The most difficult thing is to find the balance. You need to keep your house clean, you need to cook dinner, you need to do homework, you need to do projects, and then you still need to find time to go to the studio without little Rachel knocking on the door the whole time, and still trying to still be a good parent,” she said.
