Three suspects have been fatally wounded following a high-speed chase and shoot-out in Durban’s Manor Gardens suburb on Thursday.
It is alleged that the men had just committed an armed robbery at Durban Halaal Meats in Overport.
A spokesperson for Marshall Security said the suspects were spotted travelling just outside the area, and a high-speed chase ensued.
“Shots were fired at responding members and vehicles. The pursuit continued into the Manor Gardens area, where the suspects’ vehicle eventually came to a stop on Mary Thiphe Street,” the spokesperson said.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said when they arrived at the scene, they found that three suspects had succumbed to their gunshot wounds.
“A fourth suspect has been treated for wounds sustained. He is stable at the moment and will be taken to hospital, for further care, under police guard,” he said.
Jamieson added that no further people were wounded.
Owner of Durban Halaal Meats, Muhammed Ameer was also on scene.
Speaking to IOL, Ameer said the men entered the shop and held staff up at gunpoint.
“Three guys came into the store. They subdued our security guard and took his firearm,” he said.
Ameer said the suspects took cash, meat and cellphones.
“I am grateful that SAPS and Marshall Security got involved and they followed the guys to Mayville,” he said.
He added that staff were traumatised, but he is grateful that no one was hurt.
Ameer said the stolen items were still inside the vehicle.
Once the necessary investigations are conducted, it is expected that the stolen items will be returned.
