In a heartwarming celebration of achievement, twin sisters Alka and Jhanvi Januk have graduated with their Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).
This milestone marks not merely the conclusion of an arduous academic journey but also heralds the commencement of two distinct yet parallel paths, intertwined by their unwavering dedication to a shared vision of justice.
While their educational experiences were linked in many ways, the sisters’ motivations diverged based on their individual aspirations. For Alka, the study of Law was not just an academic pursuit; it was a calling.
“I pursued an LLB degree driven by a genuine desire to empower others,” she said, emphasising her commitment to effecting meaningful social change.
Her ambition is to utilise the law as a vehicle to advocate for the rights of the vulnerable and to foster positive transformation within her community.
Meanwhile, Jhanvi, on the other hand, was captivated by the intellectual rigour inherent in the legal field. “I discovered early on that I had a strong aptitude for understanding and applying legal concepts,” she explained.
Her quest is to build a career that not only satisfies her academic curiosity but also leaves a lasting impact on the lives she touches.
The sisters credit their steadfast work ethic to their upbringing. Having witnessed their family navigate life’s trials with resilience, they found their greatest inspiration in their mother, who works as an attorney.
“Her journey instilled in us the importance of commitment and the belief that we could effect change through our work,” Jhanvi reflected.
However, the road to graduation was fraught with challenges. Balancing lectures, study sessions, and extracurricular commitments proved to be no small feat. Sacrifices were made; weekends were consumed by case law, and holidays were exchanged for invaluable internships. Yet, each grueling moment only strengthened their resolve to succeed.
As they look toward the future, Alka is set to embark on her practical vocational training, with aspirations of becoming an admitted attorney. Meanwhile, Jhanvi has already integrated herself into the legal profession, currently undertaking her articles of clerkship at Cox Yeats Attorneys.
