Two suspects aged 18 and 19 have been arrested in connection with a murder and hijacking following an intelligence-driven police operation in KwaZulu-Natal.
Police confirmed that the arrests were carried out on Thursday, December 18, 2025, during an operation in the Marianhill area.
The suspects were being sought for a murder and hijacking that took place on Friday, December 12, 2025, in the Crossmoor area under the Chatsworth SAPS policing precinct.
According to police, the victim was seated inside his stationery van while employees were loading goods at the back when two gun-toting suspects accosted them and demanded their cellphones.
The victim allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot but sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The suspects then fled in the deceased’s vehicle.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said investigators worked “tirelessly” to identify and trace the perpetrators of what he described as a “heinous crime”.
He said that, parallel to the detectives’ investigation, crime intelligence operatives were able to source credible information regarding the suspects’ whereabouts, which was then shared with the investigation team.
Magwaza said members from Provincial Organised Crime, Murder and Robbery, together with the KwaNdegezi SAPS Tracing Team, conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Marianhill where the two suspects were arrested.
”During the operation, police recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the murder and hijacking in Chatsworth,” he added.
He said a search of the vehicle revealed clothing similar to that worn by one of the suspects at the time the crime was committed.
“The recovered exhibits were seized for further processing as part of an investigation,” Magwaza said.
Magwaza revealed that the suspects are expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 22, 2025, facing charges of murder and hijacking.
Magwaza said, “Investigations are still ongoing, and further arrests in this matter are imminent.”
