From number 177 to 38, Tyla’s hit single “Chanel” is quickly climbing up the Spotify Top Songs global chart, reportedly reaching a new peak with 31.93 million streams so far.
Released on October 24, the song has since been on everyone’s radar, officially dethroning her breakout single “Water”. It’s clear that people have moved on from losing their breath to wanting to be put in “Chanel”.
“Chanel” keeps rising with each daily update, with the song now pulling in just over 2 million streams and hitting a new high of number 38 on the global chart.
For a song that received mixed reactions online, it has managed to flip the script completely because what’s a hit song without a little controversy?
Just days before its release, American rapper Yung Miami accused Tyla of stealing her song idea, but that has clearly not affected the love the song has been receiving.
Tyla Charts, the page that tracks the singer’s numbers, notes that “Chanel” is now her most popular song on Spotify in its release window, even outperforming “Push 2 Start” and comfortably overtaking “Water” during the same early period of streaming.
And this is all happening while the song still hasn’t received a major radio push from her US label Epic Records, which fans have been begging for since its release.
Same as most of the 23-year-olds’ hits, a big part of “Chanel’s” momentum comes from TikTok, where Tyla’s dance challenge has reportedly blown up to over 3 million videos in under a month.
According to “Times Live”, the song has also found unexpected strength in Asia and the Middle East, with K-pop stars like Seulgi showing love to the track and helping it reach new audiences.
American singer Ciara has also shown the song some love, participating in its challenge.
Tyla herself continues to rise alongside her hit song. She recently crossed the 30 million monthly listeners mark on Spotify.
She now sits comfortably at number 184 in the world, keeping her position as one of the African artists with the highest monthly listeners on the platform.
