A number of Kaizer Chiefs players have effectively used the extended FIFA international break for downtime, whether celebrating a team-mate’s wedding or taking family vacations on exclusive islands.
Midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo celebrated his Umembeso — a traditional pre-wedding gift-giving ceremony — with his long-time partner and mother of his child, Thabisa, in an elegant traditional ceremony over the Heritage Day weekend.
The pair were joined by close family and friends, including Chiefs teammates Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, Zitha Kwinika, and Rushwin Dortley, as well as former teammate Ashley Du Preez.
Ngcobo has featured in only two of Chiefs’ eight games since the start of the season. Given the lack of reported injury issues, he will know he needs to push harder to command more regular game time. He will be eager to return energised and make his family proud with his performances on the pitch.
Meanwhile, Chiefs attacker Flávio Silva and his wife, Zanira, along with their children, spent time at a beach resort in Zanzibar, East Africa. Silva will feel he needed the break to recharge and return with vigour following a frustrating start to the campaign.
The Guinea-Bissau striker played only the first half of the season opener — a moment he made count by scoring — but has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during that match against Kruger United.
Defender Inácio Miguel had no injury concerns before the break, having played all eight matches in the heart of Chiefs’ defence. However, given the team’s defensive strain — notably in goal from Petersen — the defender welcomed the downtime as he enjoyed a mini-holiday with his family in Mozambique.
