A man is recovering from injuries sustained after he was robbed and then thrown down a drain on Riverside Road, in Durban North on Monday night.

Responders at the scene where the man was pushed into a drain in Durban North.

Speaking to IOL, a private security manager said the man broke his leg in the fall.

The manager, who declined to be named, told IOL that the man spent the night in the drain.

“People walking by heard the man’s cries for help and alerted police and emergency services to the scene. When emergency teams arrived, they were able to, using their specialised equipment, haul the man up from the drain. He was stabilised at the scene and then taken to a medical facility for further care,” the man said.

IOL has reached out to police for further comment.
