Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, is expected to appear before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee this week as it continues its high-profile probe into allegations of political interference in the criminal justice system.
Sibiya’s much-anticipated testimony ,scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, follows his formal suspension by National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola. It also comes amid mounting tensions within SAPS leadership and claims of internal sabotage.
The suspension follows explosive allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who told the committee that Sibiya allegedly tried to disband the task team investigating political assassinations in the province.
Sibiya, who has denied the claims, has vowed to defend himself robustly before Parliament.
“I look forward to presenting my side. The truth will come out,” he said.
His appearance follows weeks of turmoil, including a failed court bid to overturn his two-month forced leave, and a dramatic early-morning raid at his Tshwane home last Thursday.
Elite police units from KwaZulu-Natal seized several electronic devices during the operation. While SAPS confirmed the raid, they denied that Sibiya had been arrested.
The search warrant reportedly cites charges of defeating the ends of justice, corruption, and money laundering. Sibiya’s legal team has since threatened legal action, describing the raid as unlawful and politically motivated.
“I am not angry, I am hurt,” Sibiya told journalists after the raid. “I feel like Joseph, whose brothers threw him into the pit and sold him.”
He accused senior colleagues, including Masemola, of betrayal, saying their actions had undermined both trust and integrity within SAPS.
The Ad Hoc Committee has already heard testimony from Mkhwanazi and Masemola. Later this week, suspended Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu is expected to appear.
Mchunu’s office has also been linked to the unfolding saga, with his suspended chief of staff Cedrick Nkabine reportedly also targeted in last week’s coordinated raids.
