The IOL Sports Podcast brought the muscle in Episode 8.
Joining host Zaahier Adams, regular John Goliath and technical guru Wesley Chetty was former Stormers centre Morgan Newman, who admitted he had “no idea” what he was getting himself into.
By the end he was deep in the debate of the week: how did a Springbok side with 13 changes lose to Australia? Adams had tipped the Wallabies to pull off the shock, and the panel agreed it was the most chaotic Test of the year.
They were split. Some argued that three years of celebrating South Africa’s depth leaves no room for excuses, and that the Boks were simply outplayed. Others said it was unfair to judge individuals in a disjointed backline of players who had barely played together. Changes should come in threes and fours, they argued, not thirteens.
Everyone agreed on one thing: Australia owned the skies. They scored two tries from aerial contests, and when the Springbok pack stopped dominating, the panel asked what Plan C looks like.
That led to the flyhalf question. The panel weighed up Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Manie Libbok, and called Handré Pollard solid and reliable but a player for whom “the game has moved on”.

Their prediction was a tug of war between the two younger options until next year’s World Cup in Australia, where dry conditions will demand extra attacking weapons. Assistant coach Tony Brown, they suggested, will have a big say.
The show also looked at the next generation, comparing two under-20 flyhalves Yaqeen Ahmed and Vusi Moyo and debating who runs a game with the more composed touch.
