Rain and wet weather in Mumbai have delayed the toss for the Women’s World Cup final between South Africa and India.
Heavy rain has already affected the tournament, with heavy rain causing major interruptions in the semi-final clash between India and Australia at the same venue a few days ago.
Fortunately, there are provisions for bad weather in the ICC’s Playing Conditions for the tournament, with section 13.6 stating: “The semifinals and final shall have a reserve day allocated on which an incomplete match shall be continued from the scheduled day. No other matches shall have a reserve day allocated.”

It further states: “If the reserve day is allocated, every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day, with any necessary reduction in overs taking place, and only if the minimum number of overs necessary to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match be completed on the reserve day.”
The DLS method will only come into place if both teams complete the minimum 20 overs on Sunday. But if play is not possible, a reserve day will be deemed necessary.
If the reserve day is also washed out, the match will be abandoned and the teams shall be declared joint winners.
India have been runners-up twice, in 2005 and 2017, and reached their third final after beating seven-time champions Australia in a thriller. South Africa, meanwhile, are appearing in their first-ever ODI World Cup final after defeating four-time winners England in the other semi-final.
