A 34-year-old woman was arrested on Sunday morning following a police raid at a residence in Ginsberg, Qonce, where officers uncovered hundreds of drug tablets and an undisclosed sum of cash.
According to police spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala, members of the Qonce Crime Prevention unit arrived at the Ginsberg residence around 9am to execute a search warrant based on intelligence that the house was being used to sell illegal drugs.
Mqala said: “Upon arrival, officers presented the search warrant to the occupant before conducting a thorough search of the premises.
“During the operation, police discovered 496 Mandrax tablets, four small bags of crystal meth and an undisclosed amount of cash.”
A woman was taken into custody at the scene. She faces charges of dealing in and possession of Mandrax, as well as dealing in and possession of crystal meth.
She is expected to appear before the Qonce Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
In another recent case, a joint SAPS and ACSA operation saw five South African women arrested at OR Tambo International Airport carrying over R5 million in drugs.
SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda van Wyk said at the time they were intercepted before flying to China via Dubai, with drugs hidden in their sneakers, underwear, and body cavities.
