Two men and two women have been killed in a head-on collision involving a Hyundai H1 and a minibus on the N2 at the Bhoboza off-ramp in Inkosi uMtubatuba Local Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday night.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma said he received a report about the accident at 2am from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTC) team after they had cleared the scene.
Duma conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
“In times like these, we are always called upon to show compassion. In this regard, we have assigned teams from my office and the department to be closer to the bereaved families.”
Department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said the accident follows several horrific crashes that claimed innocent lives over weekends this July.

He said that on July 18, five people died in a horrific crash on the R612 at Breamer, near KwaDumisa, on the Umzinto-Ixopo route.
“The driver of a VW Polo, who died instantly, lost control on a downhill bend resulting in the vehicle leaving the roadway,” he said.
Sibiya said the vehicle overturned before returning to the road, where it crashed into the barriers.
He said that on July 4, six people died in another head-on collision involving two VW Polo vehicles on the R34 Memel Road in Newcastle.
Two of the victims were burnt beyond recognition.
Sibiya said the department previously expressed concern that night-time winter travel significantly increases the risk of crashes because of reduced visibility and severe driver fatigue.
“Although we have ensured RTI visibility and heightened road safety campaigns, economically active people who were breadwinners have had their lives destroyed.”
