Not sure how to spend Heritage Day in Cape Town? From an afternoon braai and a big street party to live performances and theatre, there are several events taking place across the city this Thursday.
Heritage Day falls on September 24, giving Capetonians a public holiday to get out, enjoy some entertainment and celebrate South African culture in different ways.
Whether you want a relaxed afternoon with the family or something livelier with friends, here are five Heritage Day events to have on your radar.
If a quiet Heritage Day is not your idea of fun, Sea Point has something louder planned.
The Mojo Heritage Day Street Fest takes over Regent Road with live music, DJs, food and a party atmosphere.
The 2026 line-up includes Bongeziwe Mabandla, Jack Parow, Dwson, Kujenga and Mila Smith, with Afro-soul, jazz, hip-hop, amapiano and rock among the sounds on offer.

Let’s be honest, sometimes all you really want on Heritage Day is a braai.
Central Park in Century City is hosting a Heritage Day braai with live entertainment, kids’ activities and lawn games.
You can bring your own braai setup or choose the braai hire option. A bring-your-own braai ticket is around R220, while the braai hire option is around R550.
Bring some meat, gather your friends and spend the afternoon outdoors.

Time: 11 am to 3 pm

The Heritage Day finale brings global sounds to the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre for a free open-air celebration.
The event features international and local artistic collaborations, with artists including Pepe Zapata and Vicente Gelo joining South African performers.
It offers a chance to spend the public holiday listening to live music without paying an entry fee.

Norval Foundation is marking Heritage Day with a day centred on African art and culture.
Visitors can explore exhibitions, enjoy live performances and take part in creative activities, while families can also make use of the food offerings.
Museum admission is discounted by 50% for Heritage Day, making it an option for those looking for a more cultural day out.

For something different, head to Artscape for “No Place Like Home”, an original Cape Town musical featuring a local cast and live band.
The production explores family, identity and the pull of home, with its story rooted in Cape Town and its neighbourhoods.
The show runs for two hours and 30 minutes, including a 30-minute interval, and is not suitable for children under five.
