Hermanus Whale Festival is back for the first time since Covid outbreak
The Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature, Masizole Mnqasela has welcomed the return of the Hermanus Whale Festival.
The annual event returned for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The festival attracts thousands of tourists from both South Africa and other countries to the town of Hermanus.
Mnqasela says the event needs more support as it contributes to economic growth.
Water and Sanitation Department launches programme aimed to get young people into the sector
The Department of Water and Sanitation has launched the weeklong Water and Sanitation Education Programme.
The department’s spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, says the aim of this programme is to bring more young people into the sector.
Ramaphosa waits for nomination processes ahead of decision to run for second term as ANC President
ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says he will make his intentions known on whether or not he is available to serve for a second term as party president, at the ANC’s elective conference in December. Ramaphosa has been endorsed by five provinces so far. He also said he will wait for the nomination processes of the party to unfold, and will only make his intentions clear in two months’ time.

North Korea fires first missile over Japan since 2017
North Korea has fired a suspected intermediate range ballistic missile over part of northern Japan.
It prompted a warning from the Japanese government for people on the island of Hokkaido to take cover during its flight, and the temporary suspension of some train operations.
It is the first North Korean missile launch over Japan since 2017.
