LIV Golf South Africa will return to The Club at Steyn City in 2027, it was confirmed on Sunday morning.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s final round at Steyn City, SA Sports minister Gayton McKenzie confirmed that the tournament will be back from April 22 to 25 next year, with ambitions to grow it even further after an overwhelming response from fans.

“This is more than golf. This is about our country,” said McKenzie. “What LIV Golf has done, they’ve showcased South Africa like nothing I’ve ever seen… LIV Golf is coming back next year.”

The minister even challenged organisers to expand capacity dramatically, targeting up to 250,000 spectators, while emphasising the event’s broader national impact.

LIV Golf’s South African Chapter: A ‘Permanent Fixture’ with Local Growth Focus

“This is becoming the headquarters of LIV Golf… we’re going to be here 2027, 2028, 2029 — forever,” he added.

The tournament, held at Steyn City, has drawn widespread praise for both its organisation and atmosphere, with LIV Golf chief executive Scott O’Neil highlighting the emotional connection between players and South African fans.

“Sport brings people together… there have been more than a few moments that brought me to the brink of tears,” said O’Neil. “This is what sport is about, and this is just the beginning.”

Southern Guards GC general manager Richard Glover described the week as “beyond our wildest expectations”, revealing that players ranked it among the best experiences of their careers, fuelled by passionate home support.

Beyond the spectacle, McKenzie stressed the importance of using LIV Golf’s momentum to grow the game locally, particularly in underserved communities.

“The sport of golf does not reach the majority of people in South Africa,” he said. “We’re not going to back people to promote golf — we’ll work with those willing to grow it.”

With development programmes already underway and record crowds flocking through the gates, LIV Golf’s South African chapter appears poised to become a permanent fixture on the global calendar.
