Nothing short of a miracle can best be described as a dog has been found 13 incredible years after he went missing from his home, thanks to a microchip. Today, he has found a new family – the ones who rescued him.
The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa (AWS) said it was a story of a little dog who never gave up and the kind soul who never gave up on him.
AWS said that Sunday was an unforgettable moment when 15-year-old Karnallie, a stray Miniature Schnauzer, was brought to their facility after he was rescued by a Good Samaritan.
“Karnallie was found wandering down busy Koeberg Road, terrified and disoriented. A kind passerby spotted him and seeing the dog’s panic, quickly ran home to fetch a dressing gown and a laundry basket to safely catch him,” AWS said.
“At first, Karnallie tried to escape and even attempted to bite his rescuer. It took the better part of the morning to earn the little dog’s trust, but eventually, Karnallie sensed he was in good hands. He calmed down enough to be gently groomed and finally accepted some food and water.”
AWS explained Karnallie underwent a thorough veterinary examination.
It was discovered that he was completely blind from cataracts, had severely neglected teeth and a badly matted coat.

Shockingly, brave Karnallie had not only endured the cold streets, he was also injured after his matted coat revealed he had a piece of wire embedded in one of his front legs.
“But Karnallie had two things going for him, a kind stranger who had gone out of his way to help him and a microchip that could trace him back home,” AWS added.
AWS said when they contacted the number linked to his microchip, his owner was stunned and revealed Karnallie was stolen from their home in Oranjezicht thirteen years ago.
His family had spent months searching for him and adopted three rescue dogs and heartbreakingly, were no longer in a position to bring Karnallie back home.
“When the rescuer heard of the family’s situation, he didn’t hesitate, he offered Karnallie a loving home.
