Family and friends of former SABC Sports presenter Owen Ndlovu will gather at Walter Sisulu Hall, Randburg Sporting Complex, to honour his memory.
Ndlovu was found dead on September 16, 2026, after he was allegedly hijacked and kidnapped in Katlehong on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Eugene Mthethwa, chairperson of the advocacy group Artists United, an EFF MP and a member of the local music group Trompies, announced the memorial details in a video.
“It is with great sadness that we have announced the sad passing of Mr. Owen Ndlovu, and therefore the memorial service will be held under the following conditions and details.
“You are cordially invited to the memorial service of Mr. Owen Ndlovu, which will be held on Wednesday, the 23rd of September, 2026. The time is from 11a.m until 4 p.m.
“The venue is Walter Sisulu Hall, Randburg Sporting Complex in Randburg. This is near Malibongwe Drive and Hans Schoeman Street. Please join the family and friends as we gather to honour and celebrate the life of Owen Ndlovu. Your presence and support during this time of remembrance will be greatly appreciated,” said Mthethwa.
Police investigations are underway, and police in Katlehong have launched a manhunt for three suspects.
Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said Ndlovu was attacked on Tuesday night while he was on his way to fetch his wife from a church service.
“As she approached their vehicle, three unknown men, one reportedly armed with a firearm, suddenly approached them, pushed her aside and forced her husband into the back seat of his Ford Raptor bakkie. The suspects then drove off with the victim,” said Nevhuhulwi.
Nevhuhulwi said Ndlovu was found dead in Thokoza on Wednesday.
“His body was found dumped next to the road. A postmortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.”
Police later recovered the hijacked bakkie abandoned in Walkerville.
