With tickets for the 2026 MTN8 final between South African champions Orlando Pirates and African kings Mamelodi Sundowns sold out at Moses Mabhida Stadium, football fans who missed out — but are eager for final-day vibes in Durban — are still in for a feast.

The city and the PSL have set up an official Public Viewing Area (PVA) at the Bay of Plenty on the Durban Beachfront, giving supporters a free, secure, and vibrant spot to soak up the match-day atmosphere.

“For all individuals planning to come to Durban, the PVA will provide a safe and secure space to watch the final, with entertainment available from 12pm to 12am, extending beyond the 90 minutes of the match,” said Dr Zakhi Mkhize, Acting Director of Commercial Sport and Facilities at eThekwini Municipality.

“As such, people attending the PVA have no pressure to leave the CBD immediately but can spend extended time within the outdoor secured space for sport and recreation activities along the beach for almost the entire Saturday.”

To turn up the fun, the PVA will feature live artist performances, pre-match build-up starting 90 minutes before the game, as well as half-time and post-match entertainment.

Dr Mkhize stressed that safety will be a top priority at the PVA.

“Managed directly through the Venue Operations Centre (VOC) Command Centre at the stadium, the event has been fully risk-categorised under the Safety at Sports and Recreation Events Act, 2010,” said Dr Mkhize.

“Attendees can expect controlled access points, designated event marshals, clearly demarcated zones, and a strong presence of security personnel and emergency services.”

Although Dr Mkhize did not explicitly ban fans from bringing their own refreshments on the day, she highlighted the accessibility of nearby food outlets.

“The venue is well serviced and situated close to restaurants, food outlets, retail facilities, and the beachfront’s recreational amenities, allowing fans to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that Durban has to offer while watching the final,” said Dr Mkhize.

The Durban CBD and stadium precinct will be a hive of activity on Saturday. The 6pm MTN8 final kick-off at Moses Mabhida Stadium comes on the back of Day 2 of the first Test between the Proteas and Australia at Kingsmead, which runs from 9 to 13 October.

The Sharks will offer a bit of logistical relief in Durban as they travel to Cape Town to face the Stormers in a United Rugby Championship derby, kicking off at 4pm on Saturday.

Dr Mkhize said the official artist line-up for the PVA will be announced soon, and encouraged supporters to stay tuned for further updates.
