City pumps R16m into restoration and rehabilitation of Asanda Village Wetland
The City of Cape Town says its celebrating World Wetlands Day today with an investment in the Asanda Village Wetland restoration. The City says it had set aside R16million for restoration and rehabilitation of the Asanda Village Wetland. Plans there is to transform the 5 hectare site into a children’s play park with paths for cyclists and pedestrians while repairing the stormwater drainage system and rehabilitating the wetland to turn this into a healthy ecologically functioning system again.
NSFAS funding said to increase by 7% this year
The Department of Higher Education says it is aiming to increase the number of students who are receiving funding from NSFAS to one-million. Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande, says he expects the number of students who qualify for the NSFAS bursaries for the fund this financial year to increase by seven percent.
Parliament has until the end of this month to debate the Electoral Amendment Bill
Parliament has this month to deliberate and complete amendments to the Electoral Amendment Bill.
This follows an extension granted by the Constitutional Court to finalise the bill by February 28. The bill seeks to adjust how and who can run for political positions in South Africa.
Vikings took dogs, horses and even pigs with them to England – New study
According to a new study, Vikings sailing from Scandinavia to England took with them horses, dogs and perhaps even pigs.
Invading Vikings were previously thought to have largely stolen animals from villages in Britain.
The findings also provide evidence Viking leaders had a close relationship with animals and travelled with them.
