Road works begin on Jip de Jager Drive to alleviate congestion
The City of Cape Town says it will begin work to upgrade Jip de Jager Drive in Bellville, with the plan to alleviate congestion. The work which begins today will increase the road capacity and help with traffic flow from the N1. During re dualling work of the road between Kommissaris Street and van Riebeeckshof Road, motorists are advised to use alternative routes where possible and to anticipate delays.
Eskom CEO survives attempted murder plot by poisoning
EE Business Intelligence says that Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter had survived an attempted murder by poisoning a day after he tendered his resignation as CEO of the power utility. Tests taken subsequently confirmed massively elevated levels of cyanide in his body, which is reported to have entered his body through a cup of coffee he had in his office at Eskom’s Megawatt Park.
There’s a shortage in staff at the SAPS’ 10111 call centres
There’s a crisis within the SAPS as 10111 call centres are under staffed and can’t keep up with the influx of calls to the emergency number. The Independent Policing Union of South Africa has since welcomed the call by Parliament to come up with a plan for more staff to be deployed at the call centres.
English gov. to ban single use utensils and food packaging
The English government has confirmed that it will be banning single use items like plastic cutlery, plates and trays. Its not clear when the ban will be put in place, but it follows similar moves already made by Scotland and Wales as country’s look at ways to protect the environment for future generations.
