WCED urges parents to apply for the 2024 academic year timeously

The Western Cape Education Department is calling on parents to apply for the 2024 academic year timeously. The application process for schools in the province opens on Monday, with the applications to be done online. he MEC for Education, David Maynier says parents will be guided through the process

The health department is urging public sector workers to return to work, as the strike had turned deadly at some healthcare facilities. Doctors and non-striking health workers have been trying to get to work while dodging furious protesters in the process. Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla says he has received reports of deaths at hospitals which can be linked to the protest action..

Investigations underway in the deep South as water fails compliancy standards

The City of Cape Town is urging residents in the deep south to boil water before drinking. This follows routine sampling results showing that the water quality is not compliant with national water quality standards. Investigations are underway to determine the cause and the affected pipelines are being flushed and disinfected.

China becomes desperate in efforts to boost its birth rate

In efforts to boost its birth rate, China is said to be so desperate that its even cracking down on customary betrothal gifts for brides to help couples get married more easily. China is also rolling out other incentives for people to have babies. For instance, the Chinese city of Hangzhou is giving a $2,900 grant to parents welcoming a third child this year. Some other cities are giving almost 30 days of marriage leave to boost the birth rate.
