Though advancing in a cup knockout is all that matters, Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was not all smiles after his side’s 2-1 Carling Knockout quarter-final win over Magesi FC on Wednesday.
Playing in front of their partisan crowd at Orlando Stadium, Pirates bagged the win with goals from Tshepang Moremi and Evidence Makgopa.
However, Ouaddou was not happy with the attitude of his charges after finding their second score.
After the match, Ouaddou did not mince his words.
Ouaddou’s Ambition: Improving Clinical Finishing Despite Satisfactory Performance
“Now, like you said, if you want to be more ambitious, I have to say I was not very happy with the last 15 minutes,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV after the match.
“Instead of going forward and scoring the third goal, I think we made some short passes. I know the fans like that, players like that, but for me, I don’t like that. I need to score more goals, and we need to be more clinical. It’s very important for the confidence to score goals.”
Overall, though, Ouaddou did concede he was happy with the performance.
“It’s a game at halftime. You should lead maybe three or four goals, and very nice saying that. Unfortunately, it’s an area we need to improve quickly if we want to be ambitious. Other than that, I want to congratulate the boys. It was not an easy game.
“All the time, it’s difficult against these kinds of teams. They are fighting, they have a very big fighting spirit. We played some nice football as well. I think our fans were very happy about that.”
