Rachel Kolisi has announced that she will no longer be attending this weekend’s Kingsmead Book Fair as she continues recovering after undergoing surgery.

The media personality and author shared the update on Instagram, explaining that her recovery period means she will have to miss the annual literary event.

“Unfortunately, due to unforeseen surgery and needing time to recover, I will no longer be able to attend the @kingsmeadbf. Wishing the Kingsmead team and all the incredible authors participating all the best for the festival this weekend,” she wrote.

The announcement comes just days after Kolisi revealed that she had been admitted to the hospital. At the time, she shared a series of pictures from her hospital bed, including moments spent with close friends and family who visited her during her stay.

Her comment section was filled with outpouring support from industry peers and fans who wished her a speedy recovery. While she assured everyone that she was okay at the time, it seems that things have taken a serious turn.

“Had a few ideas for the caption of this one! Took @fallingforward__ a little too seriously. POV: when you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Nothing like morphine and friendship. Doctors said, ‘Take a load off.’ I got competitive,” she said at the time.

Kolisi had been expected to appear at the 14th annual Kingsmead Book Fair, taking place on Saturday, May 23.

The event, hosted by Kingsmead College in partnership with Standard Bank Wealth and Investment, Exclusive Books and media partner Hot 102.7, celebrates literature through author discussions, debates and conversations around books and storytelling.

Her appearance would have come shortly after the release of her memoir, “Falling Forward”, which has seen her opening up about some of the most challenging periods of her life and the lessons she has taken from them.
