Renewable energy transition should not come at the expense of mining communities- Mantashe

With the country gripped with an ongoing energy crisis, Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe says South Africa’s renewable energy transition should not come at the expense of mining communities. Mantashe said that there are going to be communities which would be affected by the transition, after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced last week that he approached the US government for a loan as part of government’s plan to move toward a zero carbon economy.

Still no police station erected in Makhaza after promises made in July

The Makhaza community in Khayelitsha says government has again made empty promises regarding the building of a police station in their community. This after the community is still waiting for a police station to be erected even after Police Commissioner Fanie Masemola promised to have one built by the 1st of November. That was in July, and the community says that there’s still no sign of construction.
