Western Cape schools get Grades 10 and 11 learners exam ready
Western Cape schools now have the option of giving their Grade 10 and 11 learners more examination practice at the end of this year, to build up exam-writing muscle that was lost as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
A minute was sent to schools earlier this month advising them of this option to help learners get #BackOnTrack. The minute offers schools the option of adapting the end-of-year assessment to an examination format where a greater variety of questions can be asked, allowing for more in-depth testing and practice in answering such questions under examination controlled conditions, so that learners are better prepared for future exams.
Phaahla wants healthcare facilities to be exempt from loadshedding
Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla says that work is going ahead in efforts to exempt healthcare facilities from being affected by loadshedding. This comes as the country is gripped with stages of rolling blackouts. The Minister’s spokesperson, Foster Mohale says the health department is engaging with relevant authorities being processed to be exempt from loadshedding
City to test water supply taps which may affect several Durbanville sub-districts
The City of Cape Town says that it will be conducting zero pressure tests on the main water supply to several areas in Durbanville from 9pm tonight into 4am tomorrow morning. The areas of Vierlanden, Vierlanden Heights, Durmonte, Wellway Park and Bersig will also have the tests run from late tomorrow into Thursday morning. Zero-pressure testing is part of the installation process for pressure management technology. Tests are done to see if there are any unmapped inflows that need to be taken into account before smart pressure reducing valves are installed.

Chess Champ accuses player of cheating
World chess champion Magnus Carlsen has for the first time openly accused fellow player Hans Niemann of cheating.
In a statement, he said he believed Niemann had “cheated more — and more recently — than he has publicly admitted”, though offered no evidence.
Carlsen had previously made veiled accusations against Niemann, who beat him this month in a major upset.
Niemann, has denied cheating in competitive chess and has accused Carlsen of trying to ruin his career.

Sisters combined age nearly 400 years!
A quartet of Wisconsin-native sisters with a combined age of 389 years were awarded the Guinness World Record for highest combined age of four living siblings. The sisters aged 101, 99, 96 and 93 say they are all still living and that in itself is something to celebrate.
