South Africa’s admired cultural icon, rapper, and singer Sho Madjozi has begun a new chapter in her life with the birth of her first child.

The artist, known for her energetic Xitsonga-inspired music and colourful fashion, shared the happy news on Friday through her social media channels.

She posted a moving message along with a picture of her baby’s tiny hand and some beautiful maternity shoot images.

The announcement came as a surprise to many, as Madjozi, whose real name is Maya Wegerif, had managed to keep her entire nine-month pregnancy private.

On X, she simply wrote: “Finally.” while on Instagram, she captioned the stunning pictures:, “Y’all enjoy Friday without me. My dream to become a mom has finally come true.”

For the maternity photographs, she was seen wearing a striking cream dress by Uniform.

The pictures were captured by photographers Grimms Shots and Crtv Shots, and styled by Noentla Khumalo.

In mid-July entertainment blogger sa_gossiplab shared a photo from her baby shower.

The image showed Sho Madjozi displaying her baby bump while wearing a traditional Tsonga Xibelani skirt, with a banner that read: “Welcome to Maya’s Baby Shower”.

The official announcement led to a great response among her fans, with many congratulatory messages filling her social media pages.

Fellow celebrities also shared their excitement and well-wishes.

Pearl Thusi wrote: “Our next president might have just been born. With a mom like you- the possibilities are endless. We love you mama.”

Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage wrote, “Huge congratulations,” while media personality Hulisani Ravele responded, “Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!! Congratulations Mama”.

Other well-known figures like Minnie Dlamini, Nadia Nakai, Khanya Mkangisa, and designer Rich Mnisi were among the many who sent their warm greetings.
