The highly publicised split between celebrated South African YouTubers Ntandokazi and Athini “Bash” Bashe has allegedly left Bash struggling to cope, making him a major trending topic.

Bash’s distress was allegedly so severe that he was recently seen having a breakdown in public and subsequently required hospitalisation.

Bashe and Mzamo, known by their fans as “Couple Ka Jesu,” ended their engagement earlier this month, but their breakup is still trending on social media. The news shocked their followers, given that the engagement was announced just two weeks before the statement.

The core of their announcement was the mutual decision to part ways: “After a lot of honest conversations and reflection, we’ve decided to separate mutually and take time to work on ourselves individually.”

The statement also revealed the history of their relationship: ten years of knowing each other, five years of dating, and a recent, short-lived engagement. This short period of engagement is what made the breakup particularly shocking to fans, especially since a detail on their TikTok page reveals they were engaged for only two weeks.

The celebrity duo gained fame by sharing their relationship on social media, curating an image of a ‘power couple’ that resonated with fans’ romantic ideals.

However, their fame dramatically increased when Mzamo publicly refused a businessman’s offer of R1.2 million to sleep with him, a move that quickly went viral across social media platforms.

She then confirmed the rejection on her account, stating, “Yes, I rejected R1,2 million because I’m loyal to my man.” Maintaining the original tone, she added, “Every woman knows that your body is worth more than money. Our Generation is lost because of the love of money. I am loved.” The overall tone asserts loyalty, value, and critique of contemporary materialism.

This is an iconic aspect of the couple that Mzansi remember. The pair remained in the spotlight, with Nomzamo securing collaborations with brands such as Red Bull and Meyers Motors.

The high-profile nature of Bash and Mzamo’s relationship has made their separation hard for many fans to accept. Bash’s supporters, in particular, are focusing on Mzamo’s alleged unfaithfulness and rumoured pregnancy with another man’s child, especially given all that Bashe supposedly did for her.

Many speculate that Mzamo’s feelings for Bashe were never genuine. The prevailing theory suggests that she used him, specifically benefiting from him allegedly “paying for her LLB studies” and now that she is educated, she feels she no longer needs him, leaving him to cope with the pain of the breakup alone.

Unconfirmed rumours about Bash crying/hospitalized and Mzamo cheating/pregnant continue to circulate, heavily targeting Mzamo. Even after Bash publicly defended her, “she is not the things you write about, so please respect her.” They still commented, blamed her and criticised him for his support.

However, comments were challenging the rumours’ validity,

SAPantsi commented, “But this picture is very, very old, and Ntando was pretending to be pregnant.”

Moferefere01 commented, “That’s not Bash, the number plates on the car are not even South African.”
