Thembinkosi Lorch has been back in the country since ending his loan with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, but according to reports, he could be heading back to North Africa.
The 32-year-old is unwanted by parent club Mamelodi Sundowns and has been training on his own as he looks for a new club.
During the FIFA Club World Cup, Lorch turned a few heads with his performance against some of the biggest clubs in the world. As a result of performing on the world stage, it’s thought he will not struggle in his search.
Wydad had been keen to keep him permanently after his loan ended, but the club couldn’t reach a deal with Sundowns. Now, further reports suggest he could be returning to Wydad. According to KickOff, the club are keen to go back to the negotiating table to hash out a deal for the player who became a favourite among fans.
Sundowns are said to be holding out for a R20 million fee for the attacker they signed from Orlando Pirates during the 2023/24 campaign.
Another club who could be interested in Lorch is Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs. Nasreddine Nabi’s men are still on the hunt for a prolific goalscorer as they look to rebuild the squad after last season’s disastrous league finish.
However, the alleged R20 million price tag could be too much for South Africa’s biggest football club.
For now, it looks like Lorch will continue training on his own, but if Wydad can reach an agreement over a transfer with Sundowns, Lorch could well be on his way back to the Moroccan capital. With a little over three weeks remaining before the transfer window closes, there is plenty of time for the concerned parties to reach a decision.
Whether his next chapter unfolds in Morocco, South Africa, or elsewhere, Lorch’s proven quality and experience ensure that his story in top-flight football is far from over – and his next move could yet be one of the most intriguing of the transfer window.
