For her first time on the SAMA stage, the 24-year-old made sure to leave a mark, giving one of her best acceptance speeches.
Africa’s most awarded on-air personality, Bonang Matheba, and AfriPure co-founder Grant Hughes presented the award to Tyla at Sun City.
Her speech acknowledged the magnitude of the Samas, her career milestone, and a powerful message on African unity.
Global superstar Tyla’s triumphant moment at the SAMA32, where she received the AfriPure International Achievement Award, showcases her journey and dedication to African unity.
Tyla reflected that among the many dreams she has had as a young girl, attending the Samas was one of them.
“There’s never been a Tyla before me, and I don’t have a roadmap. I don’t have someone to call and ask how they did things, and which steps to make, so as I stumbled through my career and my life now growing up as a woman and an artist in front of the world,
“I just thank South Africa for being there for me and for supporting me and just for everything that inspires me.
“South Africa runs through my veins, it shows in the way I speak, the way I dance, and I want to thank Bacardi also, Pretoria, because the moment I did Bacardi on that stage to ‘water’, it changed my whole life and I just love my country so much, and I want to take this moment to celebrate all the artists from here.”
Tyla shared her moment with artists from the country, calling them onto stage to join her. Makhadzi, Zee Nxumalo, Langa Mavuso, Babalwa M, Lordkez, Xdubby, Maglera Doe Boy and Cassper Nyovest joined her.
“I pray one day to see a unified Africa; it’s so important, and I just thank you, guys.”
Tyla calling on her fellow South African artists onto the stage has been hailed as her sharing the spotlight and putting them on.
