Local is lekker! When David Scott of the Cape Town-based electronic act The Kiffness recently shared his version of Toto’s ‘Africa’, Saffers reacted by sharing the video far and wide. In the remake, Dave asks South Africans to stay at home amid the coronavirus outbreak with his humourous lyrical choice.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa officially declared the coronavirus outbreak in South Africa a National State of Disaster. Since then the country has been placed on a 21 day National Lockdown in an attempt to quell the spread of COVID-19.
The video was released on Sunday, 22 March 2020 and has been watched over 500 000 times on Facebook.
In the song, he sings:
“A lonely oke goes jolling Friday night, as he grows restless longing for a betty to keep him company. He knows that he must do what’s right, but he ignores Cyril’s call for us to chill in quarantine.”
Dave has released other parody songs including Hey There Corona and Lockdown Rhapsody.
