SA beauty entrepreneur Unaiza Suliman is set to launch a new AI-powered app that she says could change the brow industry.

Suliman, the founder of the app called Halaal Brows, said she worked on developing the mobile app before the start of Ramadan.

The platform is designed to help users book appointments, choose brow shapes and connect with technicians in one place.

According to Suliman, the idea came from wanting to make beauty services easier to manage and more consistent for clients.

“Gone are the days where a woman must struggle with bad brows,” she said.

“We wanted to create something intelligent and simple.

“I am all about empowering women and also want to help beauty professionals.”

She said the app uses artificial intelligence to learn a user’s preferences over time.

It tracks preferred brow shapes, favourite technicians and booking patterns to make future appointments quicker to arrange.

The app is also expected to suggest brow styles based on face shape.

It will include training material for technicians and an online store for related products and tools.

Suliman said the platform is aimed at both clients and beauty professionals, particularly small salon owners looking to grow their businesses.

While the Halaal Brows brand is rooted in modesty-focused values, Suliman said the app is not limited to Muslim women.

“This is for everyone,” she said.

“It’s open to women of all backgrounds who want professional, precise brow care.”

According to a 2025 market report by Research and Markets, the global AI in beauty and cosmetics market was valued at about US$4.4bn and is projected to nearly double — to around US$9.4bn by 2029, growing at roughly 21% per year.

A 2024 analysis by global consultancy McKinsey & Company estimates that generative AI could contribute about US$9bn to US$10bn to the global beauty industry by helping brands with product development, personalised services and customer engagement.

A report from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration notes that major beauty companies are already using AI tools to personalise skincare recommendations, analyse skin conditions and let customers virtually preview products before buying.
