Minister Enoch Godongwana appoints Leanne Jackson as the Chief Ombud of the Ombud Council

The Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, has in terms of section 188 (1)(2) of the Financial Sector Regulation Act No. 9 of 2017 (FSR Act), appointed Leanne Jackson as the Chief Ombud of the Ombud Council. The appointment is for a period of five  years and is effective from the1st of November 2022.

The Ombud Council was established in terms of section 175 of the FSR Act. Its objective is to assist in ensuring that financial customers have access to, and are able to use affordable, effective, independent, and fair alternative dispute resolution processes for complaints about financial institutions in relation to financial products, financial services, and services provided by financial infrastructures.

The appointment of the current interim Chief Ombud, Eileen Meyer, was a transitional measure, to enable the Ombud Council to commence operations and allow the Board to start the process to appoint a full-time Chief Ombud. Meyer’s contract ends on October 31st.
