Golden Arrow fares to go up
Although South Africans are waking up with lower costs for diesel, while petrol has increased at midnight, Golden Arrow has announced that its fares will increase by 6,95 percent. The fair increase which comes into effect from the 27th of December is blamed on the recent fuel and diesel increases over the past few months.
Commuters have been given up until January 25th next year, a grace period for 10-ride multi-journey products valid for 30 days purchased on December 26th.
Capetonians to use water sparingly this summer so that restrictions don’t need to be implemented next summer- COCT
The City of Cape Town is calling on residents and businesses to use water wisely this summer and to fix leaks, so we can collectively keep our usage under 950 million litres per day. The City says that if we use more than this target this summer, followed by another below average rainfall next winter, the City may have to implement water restrictions by next summer. Wise outdoor water use, fixing leaks and complying with permanent regulations are key ways to save.
Cleaner renewable energy sources for the motor vehicle sector, may cost 100,000 jobs – Presidency
More than 100,000 jobs could be at risk if the country decides to move to cleaner renewable energy sources in the motor vehicle sector. That’s according the minister in the presidency Mondli Gungubele who said that the South African car manufacturing sector faced the biggest risk as the demand for cars that emit greenhouse gasses in Europe declined. The Presidency said the investment in infrastructure in the coal mining province of Mpumalanga, alone, would require over R1 trillion.
First orbital space launch from UK expected for next Wednesday
The first ever orbital space launch from the UK is expected to take place on the night of Wednesday December 14th.
Entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Orbit company will run the mission out of Newquay, Cornwall.
It will see a repurposed 747 release a rocket over the Atlantic to take nine satellites high above the Earth.
